Our Leadership

Thomas A. Malone, M.D., was named President of Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women’s Hospital in September 2008. Prior to this position, he was executive vice president and chief medical officer for the DMC. Before joining the DMC in January 2001, he was president and chief executive officer of Physician Direct Care and corporate director of neonatal services for the Oakwood Healthcare System. Malone attended medical school at Ohio State University, where he completed his pediatric residency. He continued at Brown University, completing a fellowship in neonatal medicine, and is board certified in pediatrics and neonatology. Malone earned his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame.
 
 
Valerie Gibson, R.N., M.S.A., NE-BC, was named Chief Operating Officer of Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women’s Hospital in 2009. Prior to this position, she served as Vice President of Patient Care Services at the hospitals. A native Michigander, Gibson received her Associate of Science degree in Nursing from St. Clair Community College in Port Huron; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti and a Master of Science in Health Service Administration from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant. 
 
 
Patricia Wilkerson-Uddyback, M.D., FACEP, was named Vice President of Medical Affairs for Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women’s Hospital in August 2010. In this role, Dr. Wilkerson-Uddyback is responsible for managing all issues and processes related to physicians and patients at both Harper and Hutzel. A native Detroiter, Dr. Wilkerson-Uddyback is a graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed her combined residency in pediatrics and emergency medicine at Detroit Receiving and Children’s Hospital of Michigan in 1996. Within her 15-year tenure at the DMC, Dr. Wilkerson-Uddyback has practiced in the Emergency Departments at Children’s, Detroit Receiving and Harper-Hutzel Hospitals. She is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Wayne County and Michigan State Medical Societies and the National Medical Association. 
 
 
Patricia Rosenberg, R.N., M.S.N., was named Vice President of Patient Care Services at Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women’s Hospital in 2009. Formerly, she served as Administrative Director of Cardiac Vascular Services for Harper. Rosenberg has an extensive background in hospital administration and has served in several management roles at various healthcare institutions. In addition, she has a strong background in research and has been invited to present at several national conferences. Rosenberg is a graduate of Michigan State University (BSN) and Wayne State University (MSN).  
 

 
Tina Wood was named Vice President of Finance at Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women’s Hospital in 2008. Prior to this role, she served as Corporate Vice President of Financial Planning and Budget at the Detroit Medical Center. In her current role, she oversees financial and budgeting initiatives for the hospitals and works closely with all departments. Wood began her career with the DMC as an accountant and financial analyst in 1988. A native of Michigan, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University and an MBA from the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University. 
 

 
Sallie Nyhan was named Vice President of Development at Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women’s Hospital in March 2009.
 

 

Crystal Martin-Gardner, M.D. was named Assistant Vice President of Medical Affairs at Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women’s Hospital in 2009. As Assistant Vice President, Dr. Martin-Gardner concentrates on quality improvement initiatives. Prior to this position, she was in private practice and served as Medical Director of the Fresenius Medical Center Conner Hemodialysis Clinic and the Fresenius Medical Center Bewick Hemodialysis Clinic. She earned her medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed a Nephrology Fellowship at the University of Michigan.
